Now under construction in Ivanhoe, this large heritage home with many distinctive original features is being thoughtfully modernised. During the build, striking arched brickwork was revealed, prompting a unique design response: remnants of the original substantial brick walls are being restored and retained, running through and intersecting the modern living spaces.
The modern architectural additions reinterpret the steeply pitched gable rooflines typical of Ivanhoe’s heritage homes, constructed from recycled bricks. These elements are paired with dark metal, helping to define and separate different zones of the building. Internally, a portal window and a modern fireplace are currently being installed, both clearly referencing the original heritage arches. At the end of the main corridor, a large circular window doubles as a window box daybed, framing views of the garden and creating a strong connection between interior and exterior spaces.
