AJF Partnership is a large independent advertising agency who needs a smart, professional work environment that quickly communicates their creativity to visiting clients and inspires collaboration amongst their staff.
Working with the constraint of a short-term lease, the design activated the space using largely independent joinery and screening objects that can be easily re-located when needed. The restrained base building is contrasted by distinctly contemporary installations with local insertion of various colours and textures. The bottom level references its positioning amongst the laneways drawing rust and green from brick buildings and ground level plantings. The upper level pulls more from the openness of its setting in the sky.
Set across three separate levels of a multi-storey building in Melbourne CBD, the design makes the most of the unique aspects of each to create a variety of spaces and functions. The ground level is intimate with a deliberate connection to the human scale while the upper levels benefit from expansive views.
Innovative programming and design strategies were adopted to reconnect the business for the purposes of office culture and work flows. Shared facilities such as kitchen, main printing facilities, lunch rooms and breakout spaces are located on level one to encourage the staff to move between floors and interact personally. Their independent workstations support their specific team-based workflows and are cosy to mitigate long hours.
The plan has been designed with a public to private gradient, allowing open plan works spaces as well as a variety of meeting areas with flexible programming.
Providing direct visual links to the business’s emphasis on forward thinking and originality, the design for AJF Partnership brings together a varied fitout across two distinctly different levels to create a dynamic, multifaceted work space.
