Crest Camberwell, in collaboration with Progressio Developments, sits on a gentle rise in one of Melbourne’s most established suburbs, amongst the large masonry and Federation-style homes that define the area. Sensitive integration into the site’s topography, with the building partially cut into the hillside, reduces bulk and allows the architecture to sit harmoniously within its elevated setting.
Designed almost as a single residence, the travertine-clad volume is articulated and broken into distinct forms, reflecting the rhythm and scale of the surrounding homes and referencing the site’s stonework. Deep, carefully proportioned fenestration punctuates the solid façades, mediating light and views, while maintaining a contemporary clarity of form and a refined material expression. Variation across the façades is further enhanced through the use of both vein-cut and cross-cut travertine, creating subtle textural depth and visual interest.
Comprising twelve expansive, high-end apartments, Crest offers generous living tailored for those seeking a refined, low-maintenance lifestyle without compromise. Each apartment exceeds 120 square metres, with large, open interiors that maximise light and a sense of spaciousness. A unique feature of the development is the inclusion of individual, private native landscaped gardens, thoughtfully extending each apartment’s living space. The terraces incorporate built-up gardens, creating secluded outdoor areas that ensure privacy within each home.
The material palette is warm, refined, and tactile, carrying continuity from the travertine-clad façades into the interiors. Vein-cut and cross-cut travertine creates subtle variation across surfaces, while fine bronze metal detailing balances the mass of the stone. Warm timber is used throughout joinery, complementing the natural stone and reinforcing the richness interior spaces, including upscaled bathrooms and living areas where carefully selected stone continues the material narrative.
Each apartment is designed with energy efficiency in mind, featuring individual photovoltaic systems and targeting high-performance ratings to reduce environmental impact.
Crest Camberwell combines sustainability, material refinement, and spatial generosity in a cohesive architectural narrative. It engages sensitively with the surrounding streetscape, balancing contemporary form with the scale and rhythm of its heritage context.
